Finding Motivation To Exercise: The Four Step Process

Do you need a little workout motivation? If you’re like many adults, you occasionally lack the desire and drive necessary to begin a physical exercise program. You are aware of the many benefits to exercise, but still lack the ambition or fitness motivation to get started.

Sometimes all that is required is a little encouragement and a proven strategy. Use this four-step process to find your fitness motivation.

Vision

Finding motivation to exercise begins with a vision. Your vision is your ultimate fitness goal. You must first make it absolutely clear in your mind what you want. Visualize, in no uncertain terms, exactly what you want to accomplish. Successful people know what they want in life. You will be successful because you will know what you want.

Studies have shown that those who are certain about what they want are six times more likely to succeed than those who are vague in their goal setting. Picture yourself looking and feeling more amazing than you ever have. This, in itself, is great workout motivation.

Strategy

Success requires a strategy for making your vision a reality. You must have a plan of action–a clear, logical, do-able plan of action. There are three main components to your strategy for finding your motivation for exercise and achieving your ultimate fitness goal:

Sound nutritional habits. Learn to eat smart.
Cardiovascular exercise routine. Burning calories while strengthening the heart and lungs.
Resistance training program. Building lean muscle while speeding up the metabolism.

These three components, used in conjunction, will get you to your ultimate fitness goal in the shortest amount of time. You’re going to love the changes you’ll see.

Belief

Finding motivation to exercise requires belief. You must truly believe that you can implement your strategy to achieve your vision. Setting modest, attainable goals at first will help you to create belief in yourself. Try setting a small goal like losing five pounds or walking outside twice this week.

Once you have accomplished your first goal, you will raise the belief in yourself. You can then set another, slightly higher, goal. It is important to have your ultimate fitness goal (your vision) in mind and be to able to set smaller, more attainable goals. It feels great to achieve a goal.

Persistence

Being successful in any endeavor requires persistence. By making the right choices day in and day out, you will make steady progress towards your goals. This journey will not happen overnight, but if you make even a little progress each day, you will be that much closer to your goals.

If you happen to have a momentary set-back, just accept that it happened and get back on track. It’s no big deal. We all get knocked down from time to time. A true champion is the one that gets back up. Be a champion. Use this four-step process to find your motivation for exercise.
