Calf Workouts To Polish Off Your Lower Legs
Calves are arguably the most difficult muscle group to develop, and understandably may be your least favorite muscle group to train. Yet, to really polish off your lower legs you must perform calf muscle exercises on a regular basis. See videos below.
Whether you want to add size to your lower legs or desire long, lean calves that look great in heels, calf training is a necessity. The calves are composed of two major muscles–the gastrocnemius and the soleus. These muscles have the same function which is to raise the heel of the foot (plantarflexion). The soleus works when the knee is bent, i.e. seated calf raises. The gastrocnemius works when the knee is not bent, i.e. standing calf raises.
Genetics play a very large role in your potential to build substantial calf muscles. Generally speaking, taller individuals will face additional challenges. None the less, consistent calf training can produce results, just be prepared to work a little harder to get them.
Trainer’s Tip: Use these calf execises in conjunction with a solid fitness training program to maximize results.
