Back Exercises: Make Your Waist Look Smaller

Having well-developed back muscles not only plays an important role in your overall physique, but it also gives the illusion of a smaller waistline. See videos below. A nice V-shaped taper will make your midsection appear leaner by comparison.

The primary muscles of the back are the trapezius or traps, the latissimus dorsi or lats, the middle back or rhomboids and the spinal erectors. Give attention to each of these areas by performing upper, middle, and lower back workouts.

Back muscle strengthening exercises do require some practice to perform correctly, as you cannot see the muscles working and many people find it difficult to feel them working. Begin your back workout with lighter weights until you feel confident with your form.
